Frequently Asked Questions

What does this tool show about my connection?
Your public IP address, the ASN and ISP that announces it, approximate geolocation, the specific BGP prefix your address falls under, and the RPKI validation state of that prefix.
What is RPKI and why does the status matter?
Resource Public Key Infrastructure cryptographically ties a prefix to the AS authorized to originate it. A "valid" status means a matching ROA exists, which helps protect against route hijacks. "Not found" means no ROA has been published for the prefix yet.
Why is my geolocation wrong?
IP geolocation is approximate and based on registry and ISP data, not GPS. It often resolves to your ISP’s regional hub rather than your actual location and can be off by tens of miles or more.
What is the difference between my public and private IP?
Your private IP (such as 192.168.x.x) is used inside your local network; your public IP is what the rest of the internet sees, assigned by your ISP. This tool reports the public IP your traffic appears to come from.
